About UT Austin Filipino Students Association

The Filipino Students Association (FSA) at the University of Texas at Austin is a comprehensive student organization dedicated to celebrating and preserving Filipino culture through multiple engaging programs and initiatives. Since its founding in 1988, FSA has established itself as a vibrant hub for cultural expression, community engagement, and personal development within the Austin, TX campus community.

FSA operates across four primary pillars that define its mission and activities. The Culture pillar forms the foundation of the organization, with FSA hosting signature events like Filipino Culture Night and facilitating conversations about Filipino identity and heritage. Through this pillar, the organization educates both members and the broader Austin community about Filipino traditions and values.

The Community pillar reflects the Filipino cultural value of service to others. FSA actively fundraises for Bantay Bata, a social welfare program in the Philippines protecting disadvantaged youth from abuse and exploitation. Additionally, the organization supports the SingSing Scholarship, providing educational opportunities for underprivileged students in the Philippines.

The Sports pillar recognizes the historical and cultural significance of athletics in Filipino communities. FSA members participate in intramural leagues and Goodphil events, offering basketball, flag football, volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and pickleball. The organization welcomes all skill levels and even features a Hype Squad for non-athletes.

The Dance pillar uses movement and performance to strengthen cultural bonds among members. FSA offers summer dance workshops (Twerkshops), Unity programs, and instruction in traditional Filipino dances including Tinikling, Malong Malong, and Maglalitik. The organization welcomes dancers of all experience levels, from beginners to advanced performers, making dance accessible to the entire Austin campus community.
