GABRIELA USA is a progressive grassroots alliance of Filipino women's organizations operating throughout the United States, with a presence in Glenview, IL and beyond. As the first overseas chapter of the Philippines-based GABRIELA National Alliance of Women, the organization brings decades of advocacy experience and organizational expertise to address critical issues affecting Filipino women and marginalized communities. GABRIELA USA specializes in campaigns focused on women's rights, gender discrimination prevention, violence against women, and women's health and reproductive rights. The organization simultaneously engages in broader national and international economic and political advocacy that intersects with women's liberation. Operating as a member of BAYAN USA and the International Women's Alliance, GABRIELA USA coordinates with a network of over 250 organizations, institutions, and programs to advance systemic change. The organization works against issues including landlessness, militarization, foreign debt crises, IMF-World Bank impositions, denial of women's health rights, trafficking in women, and migration-related challenges. Beyond direct advocacy, GABRIELA USA promotes positive social attitudes toward women through cultural initiatives and consciousness-raising programs. The organization's name honors Gabriela Silang, the first Filipino woman to lead a regional revolt against Spanish colonization, reflecting the deep historical roots of Filipino women's resistance and leadership. Through coordinated campaigns, educational programs, and community organizing, GABRIELA USA continues extending the Filipino women's mass movement to American soil, connecting local struggles with international solidarity efforts.
