About Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh
The Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh (FAAP), based in West Mifflin, PA, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Filipino heritage through comprehensive cultural, charitable, and educational programming. Since its formal establishment in 1964 as Samahang Pilipino ng Pittsburgh (SPNP) and incorporation as FAAP in 2000, the organization has become a vital resource for the Filipino American community across Western Pennsylvania.
FAAP operates through three primary pillars of service. The Charity pillar organizes fundraising events and year-round activities supporting both domestic and international causes, including partnerships with Miryam House, Ronald McDonald House, the Salvation Army, and food banks throughout the region. The Cultural pillar engages members and the public through participation in cultural events, including the Pittsburgh International Folk Festival where FAAP has maintained continuous participation for over 60 years. The Education pillar supports student achievement through the Simplicio Maramba Scholarship, enhancing educational opportunities for young Filipino Americans.
Beyond core programming, FAAP maintains the Tahanang Pilipino (Philippine Center) in West Mifflin, PA, which serves as a community gathering space. The organization also operates specialized initiatives including the CALAMITY Fund for disaster relief in the Philippines and the Philippine Nationality Room Project. With a dedicated volunteer team and engaged membership base, FAAP continues its mission to ensure Filipino heritage remains recognized and valued as an integral part of America's ethnic diversity.
